Simply the first COUSTEAU GAGNAN double hose regulator manufactured by La Spirotechnique in 1946.

There are at least four different name plates:

• Large one with "La Spirotechnique SARL"
• Small one with "La Spirotechnique SARL"
• Small one with "La Spirotechnique SA"
• Without a name plate (one theory is that they were made for the French Navy?)

At the beigining of this century, the US Navy asked Aqualung to develop a modern double hose regulator for the training of the navy divers, something they can be train with before using a real rebreather.

Only a very small serie a 125 Mentor have been made.

Very heavy 2,3 kg and well made

The direct successor of the CG45 appears in 1955, several versions have been made.

Most of the datation above is based on the adverts from the magazines l’Aventure Sous-Marine

In the number 19 of l’Aventure Sous-Marine (jan 1959), La Spirotechnique advertised that they have sold more than 100.000 Aqualung « Cousteau Gagnan ».

In the number 37 (mar 1962) more than 200.000 Aqualung «Cousteau Gagnan » have been sold.

In order to be able to date the regulators, three changes of address :

• Rue Cognac Jay, Paris VII - till 1956
• Rue Trébois, Levallois( Seine) - till ??? (at least 1962)
• Rue Marius Aufan Levallois (92)
